Oto no Yukue -the destination of the sound- began in the spring of 2021 and finished mixing and composing in November of 2021. The process of extracting the instant sound of each land, exchanging like a sound letter, and creating new compositions from the explorations slowly took shape. The end result became a sketchbook-like album of sounds with seasonal changes, elements of nature, and some distant memories.


1.Rendezvous cycle (6m50s)
In this track, you can listen the sound of life magic of Brood X Cicada field recording by Chris with instrumental drones by Hiroko's Hungarian Zither. This periodical cicadas emerge only every 17years. Just during several weeks of life on the earth, they are born, make meeting, then finish their life and go back to the earth till next new birth.
Life and death and meeting. This beautiful rendezvous cycles are expressing the eternal transformation of life.

2.Sonotoki, Anotoki (5m07s) - At the time, at that time -
One sunny Sunday afternoon, standing on the bay just hearing the waves.This day on the summer solstice, we had our first appointment recording sound at the same time. At 16pm in Ostuni Italy, at 10am in Maryland US. Here both sounds meet and create a new track. The sound of this moment from here and there, crossing over the sea and sky far distance.

3.Ima no oto (6m50s) - The sound of now -
Early summer day, it was our 2nd appointment of same timing recording. This Japanese title means “the sound of now”. Morning in Maryland, U.S. and late afternoon in Toscana, Italy. In these distant places, we recorded the sound of that moment of that day. Field recording of the driving car and bird voice, etc. And acoustic sound of breathing and Russian lap harp with summer clouds passing in both directions.

4.Winter proof (2m25s)
Winter preparation is essential for living in the country. Carry firewood, clean the ashes, and condition the chimney. At that time, the iron door of the wood stove just waits for the arrival of winter. This track was composed by a combination of field recording and Chris's improv piano performance.

This longer work is an audible journey that blends different field recordings and instruments to create a sketchbook with the transition of seasons, the sounds of objects, the air there, the imaginary scenery like memories, and the invisible story.



Oto no Yukue -音の行方-。2021年春に始まり、2021年11月にミキシングと作曲を終えました。それぞれの土地の今の音を抽出し、音の手紙のように交換し、模索しつつ新しい曲を作曲していき、やがて形となっていくプロセス。最終的には、季節の移ろい、自然の要素、そしてどこか遠い記憶を含んだ音のスケッチブックのようなアルバムとなりました。


1.Rendezvous Cycles 　-循環する出逢い-
この曲は、ChrisのBrood X Cicadaと呼ばれる周期蝉のフィールドレコーディングに、Hirokoのハンガリアンチテラの弦楽器ドローンを重ね合わせてできた曲です。この周期蝉は17年ごとにしか出現しません。地上でのわずか数週間の生命の間に、出逢いがあり、そして命を終えて、次の17年後まで大地に戻る。生と死と出逢いの循環。そしてこの循環は永遠に変容していく生命の形のようにも思えます。


2.Sonotoki, Anotoki -その時、あの時-
ある晴れた日曜の午後、波の音を聴きながら海岸にいた。この日は夏至、そして同時刻録音を予定していた第一回目。南イタリア、オストゥーニの午後16時。米国東海岸メリーランドの午前10時。私たちは同時刻にその時の音をそれぞれの場所で録音。これらの音が新しい曲となる。遠く離れた海と空を越えて、あちらとこちらの、この瞬間の音が出会う曲。


3.Ima no oto -今の音-
初夏の日、同時刻録音の2回目。"今の音"を録るべく、米国東海岸メリーランドの朝時間とイタリアトスカーナの午後時間の双方の地で同時刻に録音しました。車のドライブ音、鳥の声などのフィールドレコーディングと、呼吸音、ロシアンハープのアコースティック音。そして夏の雲が空を駆け抜けて。

4.Winter proof -冬支度-
田舎での生活でかかせないのは冬支度。薪を運び、灰を掃除して、煙突の調子を整える。そのとき、薪ストーブの鉄扉はただ冬の到来を待つのみ。トスカーナの村でのフィールドレコーディングとChrisのピアノ即興演奏のコンビネーションで作曲しました。


5.Then. and then… -そして、それから-
この22分25秒の曲はフィールドレコーディング、インストゥルメンタルをミックスし、移りゆく季節、モノの音、そこにある空気、記憶のような心象風景を、そして見えないストーリーを　ひとつのスケッチブックにしてみました。
